Ownership & Funding
This page exists so a reader can work out in about two minutes who owns Significadopedia and where the money comes from. Last updated: August 2026.
Who owns the site
Significadopedia is published by a small private company owned outright by the founding editorial team. There is no parent group, no holding company above that one, no investor with a board seat and no silent shareholder. The people who decide what gets published own the company, and they answer to nobody further up because there is nobody further up.
The company is registered where the publisher does business and operates under the law that applies there. We do not print the registration details here, mainly because a small team’s filing address is also somebody’s home address, but we will confirm the entity and its registration in writing to any journalist, researcher, ratings organisation or advertiser who asks. Send that request to support@significadopedia.com and a person will answer it rather than a department.
What we are not funded by
No government, state agency, state-owned company or sovereign fund gives us money, directly or through an intermediary. We hold no party affiliation, we are not aligned with any campaign, we take nothing from political action committees or their equivalents anywhere, and we refuse advertising for political advocacy that hides who is paying for it. No government body has ever commissioned content from us.
We are also not funded by anybody whose business we cover. There is no arrangement under which a company pays us a standing fee and also turns up in our reporting. Versions of that have been proposed. They get refused because they are unexplainable to a reader, which is the test that settles most questions here.
Where the revenue actually comes from
Advertising pays for almost everything. Display inventory across the site, sold directly and through the programmatic exchanges that serve most independent publishers, plus single-sponsor newsletter placements and a small amount of clearly labelled sponsored content. What we sell, and the categories we refuse even when they pay well, is on the advertise page.
Past advertising the picture is short. The site is free to read with no paywall, no membership tier and no reader-support programme, so no reader has ever paid us anything. We earn no affiliate commission and run no affiliate links, including on the Auto, Gaming and Travel pages where they would be easy money. Occasional licensing of our own explainer material to other publishers brings in a minor amount and never comes with editorial input. If any of that changes, this page changes with it, and any affiliate link would be labelled on the page before it earned us anything.
How advertising money is kept away from the desk
Commercial conversations and editorial decisions are handled by different people, and reporters are not told who is buying space in their sector. Nobody on the desk sees the advertiser pipeline. Nobody on the commercial side attends the morning list meeting or reads copy before it publishes. Advertisers get no preview, no veto and no advance notice of a story, and the editor who owns standards can stop a commercial placement without explaining the reason to the client.
Sponsored content is never written by newsroom staff and never presented as reporting. It is labelled at the top of the page and in the byline position, and it stays out of the feeds where a reader looks for our own work. What the newsroom owes a reader either way is written down in our editorial standards.
Grants, donations and money we have not taken
We have never accepted a grant or a donation. If we ever do, the rule is already set. Any single grant or donation above a modest threshold, which we will publish as a figure at the time rather than invent now, gets named here with the funder, the amount, the period and any conditions attached. Funders would get no say in commissioning, no sight of copy before publication and no review of outcomes.
Anonymous money is refused outright. So is anything conditional on covering a subject, a region or an organisation in a particular way, and anything from a donor we would then have to report on without readers knowing about the cheque. A reader who cannot see where the money came from cannot judge what they are reading.
Conflicts of interest
The founders hold no shares in companies we cover in Auto, Business, Tech or Gaming, take no consultancy work in those sectors, and hold no directorships in the industries this site reports on. The reference and glossary side of the business, where the site started, has no commercial sponsors and never has.
Staff and regular freelances declare holdings, paid work, family interests and unpaid roles that touch their beat. A declared conflict means the story goes to somebody else rather than running with a footnote. Where an interest is unavoidable and the story still has to run, we disclose it in the piece. Keeping this page current
Any change of ownership, any new revenue stream, any grant accepted and any structural change to the company appears here within thirty days, with the date at the top updated. We would rather log a boring update than let this page quietly go stale, because a transparency page that is out of date is worse than none.
