iPhone 18 Pro Preorder Deals Wipe $1,199 Over 36 Months

iPhone 18 Pro preorders opened Sept. 12 with up to $1,200 off, but that free phone is 36 months of credits on $100 plans after Apple’s $100 hike.

$1,200 in carrier credits opened against the iPhone 18 Pro on Sept. 12, enough to zero Apple’s $1,199 256GB model if the line stays on a top plan. T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon all posted that number after Apple’s Sept. 9 event. The phones reach stores on Friday, Sept. 18.

Those credits are not cash at the register. They land as monthly bill credits over 36 months, on plans that start at $100 a month, after a $100 list-price hike and a cut in what Apple will pay for the phone you already hold.

A $1,199 Phone With a $0 Sticker

Apple priced the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro from $1,199 and the 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max from $1,299 for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB steps on the Pro at $1,399, $1,799 and $2,399. That is $100 above last year’s iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099 and iPhone 17 Pro Max at $1,199. Finishes are black, silver, glacier and burgundy. Preorders opened at 5 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET) on Sept. 12, on apple.com and at the big carriers.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, or $49.95 a month for 24 months if you buy it from Apple. The Pro Max is $54.12 a month on the same 24-month math. Apple Upgrade, a Klarna lease, lists $34.99 a month for 24 months or $49.99 for 12 months on the 256GB Pro; you do not own the handset at the end unless you buy it out.

Carriers matched the new sticker with a credit that is the same size as the 256GB Pro. T-Mobile’s financed example uses $1,199.99. Verizon lists the same retail. $1,199.99 over 36 months is $33.33 a month, and the promo credit is built to cancel that line if you qualify. The Pro Max at $1,299 still leaves about $99 on the installment after a $1,200 credit.

THE IPHONE 18 PRO CREDIT MAP

Path Max credit Who gets it Plan floor
T-Mobile $1,200 Any-condition trade-in or a ported line Experience Beyond 2.0, $100/mo with AutoPay
AT&T $1,200 iPhone 14 or newer (not 16e), any condition, or a phone worth $180 Premium 2.0, $100/mo before tax
Verizon $1,200 new line; $1,020 upgrade Qualified trade-in; new-line bonus is the full amount Eligible myPlan, 36-month device plan
Xfinity Mobile $1,300, or Pro Max at $0 Qualifying trade-in on Mobile Plus Mobile Plus; Xfinity Internet required
Visible $480 New and existing members on Visible+ Pro $45/mo, credits over 24 months
Apple Trade In $175 to $885 iPhone 13 or later, working order None; credit is instant

On a quiet Sept. 12 morning, pickup windows were still open well after 8 a.m. ET. Last year’s Pro Max still feels new to a lot of people, so the $100 hike is doing real work, and the carriers know it.

What the $1,200 Credit Requires

T-Mobile’s headline is iPhone 18 Pro on Us, up to $1,200 off any iPhone 18 Pro model when you trade in an eligible device in any condition or switch a line to Experience Beyond 2.0, Experience Beyond or Go5G Next. Jon Freier, the carrier’s chief operating officer, put the pitch in those terms on Sept. 10.

Whether you’re getting iPhone 18 Pro on Us at T‑Mobile, or $300 off any new iPhone model at Metro, these are just a few of the ways we’re making it easier than ever for customers to experience Apple’s latest innovations with incredible value, plans backed by a five-year price guarantee and a network built to match.

Jon Freier, Chief Operating Officer, T-Mobile newsroom, Sept. 10, 2026

The fine print is the product. Credits run up to 36 months. They stop if you cancel the account or pay the phone off early, and the remaining device balance can come due. Tax is charged on the pre-credit price at sale, plus a $35 device connection charge. T-Mobile caps the deal at four discounted devices per account, and the line has to stay active and in good standing. Well-qualified credit is required. EIP Flex 36, new this cycle, can roll taxes and fees into the 36 months so well-qualified buyers see $0 at checkout.

THE 36-MONTH STRINGS ATTACHED

  • The term: The $1,200 is paid as monthly bill credits over 36 months, not as money off the day you preorder.
  • The kill switch: Cancel the line, or pay the handset off early, and remaining credits stop while the finance balance can come due.
  • The cash still due: Sales tax on the full pre-credit price is due at sale, along with a $35 connection or activation fee at T-Mobile and AT&T.
  • The plan floor: The full $1,200 sits on T-Mobile Experience Beyond 2.0 or AT&T Premium 2.0, each listed at $100 a month before taxes and fees.
  • The service bill: $100 a month for 36 months is $3,600 in plan charges, three times the $1,199 phone, before tax.

That $3,600 is the service you were going to buy anyway only if you already wanted the top plan. If you did not, the free phone is a $100-a-month decision with a $1,199 sticker on it.

T-Mobile Splits the Discount by Plan

Drop off Experience Beyond and the credit shrinks. Experience More 2.0, Experience More or Go5G Plus, at $85 a month with AutoPay, tops out at $930 off the iPhone 18 Pro, or an iPhone 17 on Us. Adding a line and trading in on Essentials, Go5G or Magenta is $730. A trade-in on Essentials 2.0 or Essentials is $300. T-Mobile’s own examples in the legal line use an iPhone 16 for the $1,200 tier, an iPhone 14 for $930 and an iPhone 6 for $500. $85 a month for 36 months is still $3,060 in service. Metro by T-Mobile, on the $50 AutoPay plan with a ported number, is $300 off. Business SuperMobile can put the Pro Max on Us with a $200 port-in credit, on a 24-month credit schedule rather than 36.

AT&T Puts a $100 Floor Under the Deal

AT&T’s newsroom offer is up to $1,200 off after 36 credits for new and existing customers. Footnote 1 is the whole mechanism. You need a trade-in of an iPhone 14 or higher, excluding iPhone 16e, in any condition, or another eligible smartphone worth at least $180. You need at least $1,200 on the installment plan and AT&T Premium 2.0 at a minimum $100 a month plus taxes and fees, before discounts. Credits start within three bills. If service is cancelled, credits stop and the device balance is due. New lines lose the credits if other lines on the account are cancelled within 90 days. A $35 activation or upgrade fee applies. Switchers can also take up to $800 on a reward card toward a payoff at another carrier, and $200 per line when they order online. Next Up Anytime is $10 a month extra and is not credited; it lets you turn the phone in up to three times in 12 months and, after 12 payments or one-third of the device cost, tap the smartphone deals again.

Live checkouts on Sept. 12 were already testing the any-condition line. An iPhone 14 Pro Max with shattered rear glass still came back at a $1,200 estimate, with no haircut entered for damaged materials. That is the gap with Apple’s own desk, which wants a working phone and prices cracks accordingly.

Apple Pays Less for the Phone You Already Own

If you never switch, Apple Trade In is the clean path, and it got leaner on Sept. 9. Trading in an iPhone 13 or later now returns $175 to $885 in instant credit. The new iPhone 17 Pro Max is listed at up to $885 and the iPhone 17 Pro at up to $785. iPhone Air and iPhone 17 sit at up to $585. Older Pro models moved down the same day.

APPLE TRADE IN AFTER SEPT. 9

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: Up to $885, the new ceiling on Apple’s own desk.
  • iPhone 17 Pro: Up to $785, $100 under the Max and well under a $1,200 carrier credit.
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: Up to $610, down from $720, a $110 cut.
  • iPhone 16 Pro: Up to $510, down from $630, a $120 cut, the steepest drop in the table.

A $120 haircut on last year’s Pro is the other half of the $100 list-price hike. Buy the 18 Pro from Apple with a 16 Pro in hand and you are financing a wider gap than you would have in August. Take that same cracked 16 to T-Mobile or AT&T and the carrier may still treat it as the key that opens $1,200, because the credit is a line-acquisition tool, not a used-phone appraisal.

The hardware the credit is sitting on is a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, A20 Pro on a 2-nanometer process, a next-generation vapor chamber, and eSIM-only batteries in the U.S. that Apple rates at up to 36 hours of video playback on the Pro and 45 hours on the Pro Max. Wired charging can reach 50 percent in about 15 minutes. That is the phone. It is also $100 more than the one it replaces, before a carrier writes a 36-month IOU.

Loyalty Costs $180 at Verizon

Verizon split the headline on purpose. Add a new myPlan line with a qualified trade-in and the credit is $1,200. Upgrade an existing line with an eligible trade-in and it is $1,020. The gap is $180 for staying. Trade-ins are described as Apple, Google, Motorola or Samsung devices that have been active on the account for at least 60 days, with savings as promo credits on a 36-month 0% APR device plan. Verizon’s shop page lists the Pro at $33.33 a month and the Pro Max at $36.11 a month for 36 months, on retail of $1,199.99 and $1,299.99.

The carrier’s other door is Simplicity Pro: switch, take an iPhone 18 Pro with no trade-in, and get the next one every year, with no activation or upgrade fees if you opt into Verizon Loyalty. Deal listings put that bundle around $80 a month. Verizon Support restated the two credit tiers on Sept. 12 while preorders were already open.

Existing Verizon customers who like their number and do not want a second line are the people the $1,200 poster is not for. They get the smaller check, then watch a new-line shopper walk out with $180 more in credits on the same phone.

Visible and Xfinity Trade Credit Size for a Smaller Bill

The Big Three are not the only math. Visible, which rides Verizon’s network, is paying $480 back through monthly credits over 24 months when you buy any new iPhone on Visible+ Pro. That plan is $45 a month, taxes included in Visible’s usual pricing, with unlimited premium data on 5G Ultra Wideband. $480 is 40 percent of $1,200, but the monthly service is less than half of Experience Beyond. Total Wireless, another Verizon brand, is listing $600 off the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max on its All Access plan. Straight Talk is in the same family at $480.

Xfinity Mobile posted the fattest device number. New and existing Mobile Plus customers can get the iPhone 18 Pro Max on us with a qualifying trade-in and a device payment plan, or up to $1,300 off any new iPhone. Without a trade-in, Mobile Plus still lists $400 off. The offer ends Oct. 8. Xfinity Internet is required, which is the buried bill: the phone credit is a hook for a home connection you may not have. Device protection is bundled on the Pro Max promo. Duo preorders on that same page open Oct. 16 at 5 a.m. PT.

A $45 Visible line plus $480 back will never look like “free” on a poster. Over two years it can still beat a $100 T-Mobile line that you only bought because the poster said $0. The people who already pay for Xfinity Internet are the only group for whom the $1,300 offer is a true add-on rather than a bundle trap.

The Foldable Waits Until October

The other reason Sept. 12 felt soft is sitting on Apple’s other newsroom page. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB, then $2,199, $2,599 and $3,199 for 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, or $83.29 a month for 24 months on the base model. Colors are star white and night sky. The inner display is 7.6 inches; the outer is 5.4. Preorders begin Friday, Oct. 16 at 5 a.m. PT, with the first units on Friday, Oct. 23, five weeks after the Pro models hit shelves on Sept. 18. Carrier Duo terms are not posted as a full $1,200 match yet, which is why the subsidy budget is being dumped on the slab phones this weekend.

THE FALL 2026 IPHONE CALENDAR

Everyone else is looking at $1,199 from Apple, at $49.95 a month to own it in two years, or at a $1,999 foldable that does not take orders until Oct. 16.
